Boots & Hearts Day 3

Boots and Hearts Day 3 was shaping up to be a much better day and the forecast looked great with a full day of amazing music ahead of us.

JJ Shiplett has such a distinct voice you can’t mistake for any other. Raspy and deep but yet so powerful. He sings with passion and plays with heart. JJ writes a lot of his own music and has had a helping hand from Johnny Reid. He released his debut album earlier this year Something To Believe In and if you haven’t checked it out yet you better cause you’re really missing out on some good music!

Jesse gold was apart of this years CCMA discovery program but you wouldn’t have guessed the way he took the stage like a seasoned veteran. He truly is like his single Lightning moving around the stage, full of energy and continually interacting with the crowd. They looked like they completely enjoyed the moment and had a blast on stage.

Aubrie Sellers daughter of Lee Ann Womack, has a sweet voice but can rock out like no other. Her hit single Sit here and Cry although about a breakup is definitely not about sitting around crying, it’s edgy and about moving on. Very fitting she’s apart of Miranda Lambert’s tour as she would pair very nicely with her sound.

Lindi Ortega brought her signature red cowgirl boots to BH this year. Lindi has the traditional twang sound and has been compared to those like Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline. Although a bit of a traditionalist she still has somewhat of a punk rock edge. She has a powerful voice that can’t be missed. Lindi also has the honour of opening for Chris Stapleton on his tour, another great tour match. Her latest single Till The Going Gets Gone is about perseverance and having been in the biz awhile I’m sure it’s something she knows all about.

For me personally I love when our own amazing talented Canadian artists take the Boots stage. BH had their Hearts On Fire for Chad Brownlee and showed him all kinds of love. Having played the stage before he knew what to expect and came pumped up and gave us a great show to remember. Earlier in the day Chad played a stripped down acoustic set in the Sirius Xm barn which was pretty amazing. Then with full sound he took the boots main stage ready to rock. Chad played hit after hit connecting with the crowd and everyone was singing along.

Like so many others I was quite excited to catch Tucker Beathard on the Front Porch stage. He had a great size crowd eagerly awaiting his show. The band took the stage and they were set to rock out. He’s rowdy, fun and his songs actually tell a story. Tucker’s dad has written music for guys like Kenny and Church and you can tell the influence in his music. I definitely hope you keep Rockin’ On Tucker.

With what seems like an endless count of hits, Eli Young Band came to play as many as they could for the BH crowd. These guys have been together nearly two decades and have put out countless hits that everyone knows and can sing and dance along to. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves doing just that. Still putting out new music, having just released another album Finger Prints they are showing everyone they are nowhere near done yet.

One of my favourite acts from the weekend was Brantley Gilbert’s set. He came to give us one hell of a show and to have a good time. BG is every bit “rowdy country” and jacked up. He had the boots crowd singing along and totally rockin’. He played many of his hits along with some new music from his latest album The Devil Don’t Sleep, including The Weekend. Just like the lyrics the boots crowd as always was there Livin’ It Up For The Weekend.
